SED TV Reviews
The Source for SED TV Reviews and News

SED TV -2009 In Review
As far as SED TV goes, 2009 was an exceptionally slow year. I can’t believe it was 3 years ago I was packing my bags to go to CES 2007 only to have Canon pull the SED TV out at the last minute. Any appearance of the Canon SED TV at CES 2010 would qualify as [...]
SED TV Development Continuing Says Canon
Canon plans to continue SED TV development despite the recent fall in LCD TV prices according to Managing Director Masahiro Osawa. Canon also aims to return to a trend of increasing profits each year in 2010, he said in an interview on Monday. Canon last month posted a 72 percent fall in quarterly operating profit, also hit [...]
Canon files two SED TV patents
Canon filed two SED TV related patents on April 30. Patent 20090108727 and: Patent 20090111350 These patents cover “electron-emitting device, electron source, image display apparatus and manufacturing method of electron emitting device”. This is welcome news after a long period of quiet for SED TV. I’ll keep my fingers crossed to see something at CES 2010. Thanks to oled-display.net
SED still breathing
An interesting report concerning SED TV technology has come out of the NAB 2009 show last week. It seems that SED may come out as a professional monitor product, similar to what FET was planning with FED TV. Here’s Peter Putman’s take on it: “I was asked on more than one occasion about the chances of [...]
Sony/FET FED TV bites the dust
As I reported at FED TV Reviews, Field Emission Technologies has given up on producing field emission displays and FED TVs. Sony stated that the reason was trouble obtaining financing for production. Not acquiring Pioneer’s plasma plant last year really threw a wrench into their spokes. The big question for SED TV fans is whether or not [...]
Closest TV to SED, Pioneer Kuro to be no more.
Pioneer has recently announced that they are completely shutting down Plasma TV production. The Pioneer Kuro plasma TV was considered as the best flat panel TV available to consumers. However, Pioneer was losing money at a tremendous rate, and rather than enter into a planned deal with Panasonic, they’ve decided to give up TV production [...]
SED TV ? Not at CES 2009 -Again
After an amazing showing at CES 2006, SED TV has failed to appear at the last 3 CES shows in Las Vegas. I was really hoping that Canon would pull everything together and have one on display. Even just their latest prototype to keep the interest up. However, as my friend “Rocky” keeps telling me, nothing before [...]
Canon SED TV can proceed as Applied Nanotech will not appeal
Applied Nanotech announced today that they will not appeal the court decision that ruled against them and for Canon in July of this year. That decision (click here for pdf copy) cleared the way for Canon to use the Nano-Proprietary (Applied Nanotech) SED technology for Canon SED TVs. “Nasdaq-listed Applied Nanotech, which had sued the Japanese [...]
Sony Shows Off 19? FED Monitor
It seems like FED TV technology is rapidly pulling ahead of SED TV. Sony recently showed off a 19″ FED monitor attached to 4 PS3 consoles playing Gran Turismo 5 at 240 fps! Audiences were said to be absolutely amazed by the lack of flicker and the quality of the picture. There is a good [...]
All Quiet On SED TV
Just in case no one noticed, there’s been nothing new on SED TV for some time now. I was expecting a bit of positive news after Canon winning the appeal in June against Applied Nanotech. However, we’re now in November. A number of trade shows have come and gone in the last few months with [...]

A Guide to Audio Cables: Do They Sound Different?
The Tech Zone takes a look at the world of high end audio cables and asks "Do they really sound different?" "One of the most common questions asked by consumers faced with purchasing cables for their audio or home theater system is, "What is so important about cables anyway?" They can cost as much or more than some of the hardware in the system and to many it is difficult to understand why wire isn?t just wire."
Hollywood: Are you worried yet?
If not, you should be. With the advent of low-cost, high-quality digital video cameras and desktop video editing, the power of production has been in the hands of the masses for a couple of years. But now, thanks to a non-profit, open-source, open standards project built on top of BitTorrent technology, the power of distribution will be widely available too.
Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD, Take 2. Another challenger steps in...
So in the one corner, there's Blu-Ray, and in the other corner, HD-DVD, just like the VHS/Beta war 20 years ago. And hovering over the entire boxing ring, is something else entirely, something that could make the whole battle moot before either the Blu-Ray or HD-DVD products hit mainstream.
