@Douverwynn Yes the reflector is always to the back of the antennas that are pointing to a certain direction, you can use disposable Aluminum Grill Toppers sold at Walmart, you will need 4 of them and screw them to the back of the two sets of antennas, they work fantastically and are cheap!! Soo, the antennas are at the two ends and 2 grill toppers are at each end as well, (ie... 2 grill toppers per each side of antenna), they work just as well as wire mesh or chicken wire, and are less sharp!!

@hailherrosner Hopefully not a stupid question but when aiming the antenna is the reflector always in the back to where you are pointing?

@hailherrosner Up on the roof would be a problem (best place yes) but for now its in our attic on the third floor.

@Douverwynn Continued.... Read previous comment first, make sure once you build it that you try to get your antenna up as high as possible, preferrably on your roof, and the most critical part is you should try to face South or South-East or South-West, depending on whether you are West or East of the CN Tower, I would recommend a compass to help you out,or just move the Antenna a couple of centimeters each time and RE-tune on your TV, until you get the most channels possible, you will be amazed.

@Douverwynn The Square should be 3ft by 3 ft and the wire mesh should be behind the antennas to act as a reflector, it will significantly improve your signal strength, this is called an 8 Bay antenna and has about a 70 mile or 112 km range to pick up signals, you will probably get 14-19 channels in HD in Newmarket area, you should be able to get all the major Yankee channels such as NBC,CBS,ABC,FOX, etc.... I use 4 inch by 3 Ft long wood purchased at Home Depot $3.49 each, you will need 4 pieces.

@hailherrosner And I take it the wire mesh acts as a reflector? I currently am not using one.
Douverwynn (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@hailherrosner Any guess as to how big the square should be? And the wire mesh does it go on the back side of the wood square and the antenna being on in front.

heys. do this works at TV. not hdtv?

@Douverwynn If your North East of NewMarket, you might want to build two of these antennas and attach them together with 4 pieces of wood, make a square shape and put wire mesh or chicken wire in the middle and screw them in, the two antennas should be at the two ends of it, attach a VHF/UHF Transformer to each of them and two short co-axial cables 6 ft (both exact same length)or less to each Transformer, then attach both co-ax cables to a 2 way splitter, 2 going in, and 1 going out to your TV,
